Inspiration Sunday
Sunday, November 25, 2007

Today is Inspiration Sunday, and I hope that you will each be inspired to do your best for God and St. Margaret of Scotland Episcopal Church.

It i s a great sight to look out from here and see your bright faces, beautiful smiles and all those “I’m Beautiful” labels you are wearing.

No one thing makes us beautiful, it is the total package as individuals and as a church family that makes us beautiful.

When we attend worship service, we are “beautiful”. When we pray and participate in Bible study, we are “beautiful”. When we visit the sick and shut ins, when we work in the Church garden, when we volunteer our time and talent to clean the Church or to serve a meal, we are “beautiful”. When we share our resources—time, talent and treasure to enable the work and ministry of our Church to go forward, we are “beautiful”.

If there is any one lesson that comes from experience, it is that beauty comes from the things we “do” to serve God and his people. In the past year we have done many things together.
We came together to keep our church doors open.
We worked together to raise money for the Church through two major fundraisers—the dinner-dance and the African Festival.
We’ve moved back into our beautiful Sanctuary with a robed choir and a beautiful Children’s Choir—all with God’s help and our resources.
Here at St. Margaret of Scotland we are not a finished product, but a work in progress, preparing ourselves for the tasks God wants us to do in the coming years.

1. We must invest more of our time, talent and treasure to grow and nurture our most precious resources, our children and our youth.
2. Our vision for the future must include becoming a parish—this will require a major commitment of treasure.
3. And we must begin our journey to becoming a parish by putting God and our Church ministry first.

We must continue to work together to accomplish these things. Please take a moment to look at the back of the Personal Guide you received this morning. Each of us is an important part of the ministry. By taking a Forward Step we can each help sustain the work of our Church over the next year.

By taking a Step of Faith according to our individual circumstances, we serve others and more importantly, we serve God and enrich our lives al well.

I suggest that over the next week, we take time to think about our blessings and our vision for St. Margaret—ask God to lead us in our offering. Please remember that a Forward Step and Steps of Faith are suggestions only. As always, your offering is between you and God.

Next week you will receive a Pledge card at Church. One thing you can do that really helps our Church no matter what your offering may be, is to return the card in a timely manner. It doesn’t change the amount of your gift and it makes it much easier in planning for the year ahead.

Thank you, it has been a pleasure to serve as you Stewardship Chair this year. It’s been a beautiful experience.

Pastoral Care

The Pastoral Care Committee is
headed by Frederica Bradford.
Pastoral visits by the committee
are available to anyone unable to
attend services due to being
homebound or hospitalized on a
temporary or permanent basis.

While clergy are available to make these visits, parishioners, who are trained to do so, may also make these calls and administer communion.
